Notes about the Church St Philip church closed in 1940. After this, the parish church became St Anne, or St Philip and St Anne. Some marriages were carried out at St Philip Church Hall and a few at St George's. The St Philip church graveyard was closed in the 1800s and after that burials were at Wardsend Cemetery. There are about 30,000 burials at Wardsend, which became derelict some years since. It is now a Heritage Park
